Meeple-a-thon is a 501(c)(3) charity gaming convention that supports Kansas City’s at-risk community members. Meeple-a-thon was founded in the summer of 2017. At a young age, our founder became a member of the houseless community and quickly learned that houselessness and poverty can be a vicious cycle. Sleeping on couches when available, finding income, and basic means of survival became facts of daily survival that were almost impossible to escape. As an adult, our founder worked their way to financial security but became committed to helping those less fortunate, and began building a team of like-minded individuals.
In Meeple-a-thon, our founders discovered a calling close to their hearts where they could put their passion for caring for others in their community to work. After participating in numerous charity gaming fundraisers for other causes, our founders took the idea and ran with it, creating Meeple-a-thon to help Kansas City’s at-risk and disenfranchised communities.
We started small, with a maximum capacity of 50 people, focusing on playing games with friends while supporting a small charity raffle as our primary fundraiser. Over time we’ve grown into a full-blown gaming convention, complete with a game library, tournaments in popular war games, card games and board games, and game-related classes.
Six years later, the call to help those in need is stronger than ever, and we are growing. Each year we partner with an affiliated 501(c)(3) charity to raise funds for causes that do the most good in Kansas City, with a focus on providing necessities for life and living. Every dollar spent at Meeple-a-thon goes directly to charity, supporting Kansas City’s communities. This year we are proud to partner with Hillcrest Platte County’s Youth Housing Program.
